Zond updates: gettext and tinylog support

2023-06-03

This capsule is served as static files which are generated using my capsule generator, zond.

=> Zond repository on Codeberg

A while back I started work on an i18n capable branch of the project at the request of Codeberg user Steko, who had manually translated the program into Italian. The branch was basically ready a long time ago, but I never quite got around to merging it. The merge is now done, and adding new translations is as straightforward as in most FreeSoftware projects using the Gettext framework. The Italian translation is the only one which exists for the time being, but feel free to contact me if you have any interest in helping to translate Zond into other languages (indeed, I have several other projects which would benefit from translation help as well).

I also added a subcommand to zond for working with tinylogs. Basically you can just type in a terminal zond tinylog "I have something to say" and it will update tinylog.gmi with the quoted string you pass it and the correct time. Adding a new tinylog entry also changes the publication date on the tinylog page, which can be shown or hidden depending on your capsule settings.

There has been some discussion about the lack of tooling around Tinylogs, mostly relating to discoverability. It's something that I have some ideas for, but I also have a bunch of projects all goind at once right now. Maybe when I get Dory into a functional state and do some releases for Gfret, Eva and Vapad I'll look into throwing together an aggregator of some sort.
