[2023-07-17T13:10:33Z] very weirdly written

[2023-07-17T13:11:09Z] it should just be a simple display command

[2023-07-17T16:33:55Z] are there any pdf viewers than don't use GTK/QT?

[2023-07-17T16:38:31Z] closest I could find was https://lkrotowski.com/projects/lpdf/

[2023-07-17T16:39:57Z] but that doesn't build

[2023-07-17T16:44:28Z] <xdream8[m]> Maybe mupdf? I think it depends on Xorg libraries tho

[2023-07-17T17:11:21Z] X11 dep is fine

[2023-07-17T18:20:52Z] Zathura?

[2023-07-17T18:21:59Z] sewn: requires GTK3

[2023-07-17T18:22:06Z] unfortunately

[2023-07-17T18:22:28Z] ew what I thought it was a nice lil pdf reader

[2023-07-17T18:22:29Z] aw man

[2023-07-17T18:22:48Z] xdream8[m]: Looks good, thanks

[2023-07-17T18:32:28Z] sewn: it's fine on my arch machine (ew), but that's a necessary evil

[2023-07-17T18:32:39Z] but when it'd be the only req. for GTK3, that's a hard pass

[2023-07-17T22:40:41Z] sujo: you could also convert pdf to an image format and pipe to an image viewer

[2023-07-17T22:44:13Z] phoebos: fair enough

[2023-07-17T22:44:28Z] some of the material I use has ToC which I'd need to preserve

[2023-07-17T22:44:38Z] but getting mupdf packaged wasn't too bad

[2023-07-17T23:12:18Z] it's also in community

[2023-07-17T23:17:53Z] is there a viable way forward for x? I planning on sticking with it and I know Wayland is preferred by many. Ideally it would be 50 50 communities so everyone can use what they like. but if everyone here is moving I have no choice but to move as well. there are too many x packages to maintain without help.

[2023-07-17T23:18:55Z] time frame is next 20 years. I have scripts with x hard dependencies especially xdotool

[2023-07-17T23:20:05Z] i and plenty others have no interest in leaving X

[2023-07-17T23:20:11Z] I know lfs and gentoo can help with it too

[2023-07-17T23:20:39Z] so part of it is up to them to help with fixing stuff that might break x

[2023-07-17T23:21:02Z] OK good if you are in then im in. we just need to hold the line

[2023-07-17T23:22:32Z] for most ppl its a display tool but for some of us our tools literally break without it. a big deal

[2023-07-17T23:27:32Z] when ppl start writing Wayland protocol only programs, is the plan simply to find alternatives?

[2023-07-17T23:33:09Z] looks like the Wayland server Weston can run on x client, as long as they decide to support it and not break it. so there's my answer

[2023-07-17T23:35:00Z] phoebos: I only saw zathura and libmupdf

[2023-07-17T23:38:04Z] rory50: kiss-xorg is pretty good with updates

[2023-07-17T23:39:09Z] a non-insignificant portion of people still use kiss+X

[2023-07-17T23:39:19Z] kiss repos are beyond awesome im just overwhelmed by the amount of work put into it and constantly live in fear that I may be alone doing it one day

[2023-07-17T23:40:17Z] if that does happen (operand being does), it'll be incremental work

[2023-07-17T23:40:38Z] the main kiss community repo didnt have xorg so I panicked a bit. didnt realize it was a separate site

[2023-07-17T23:40:44Z] and if you're still soldiering through as the last X user, then that wouldn't be too much of a burden

[2023-07-17T23:41:05Z] yeah mainline switched to wayland

[2023-07-17T23:41:10Z] too new for me

[2023-07-17T23:41:27Z] it just doesnt have something as good as xdotool

[2023-07-17T23:41:36Z] new -> underdeveloped

[2023-07-17T23:41:38Z] cant use it for that 1 fact

[2023-07-17T23:42:02Z] I like that Wayland isnt bloated like tons of packages

[2023-07-17T23:42:43Z] I have my own kiss fork that have to manually convert kiss packages to mine. ton of work for x
