Re: Dwarf Fortress

Today, I ran accross Szczeżuja’s post about the game Dwarf Fortress (reference link below).

I have briefly played this before and was very impressed with the complexity and strategy required. I also enjoyed the interface which is text based (either SDL or ncurses).

I have not played this game as much as I would like because of other priorities so my skill is only beginner level.

Anyway, Szczeżuja wrote an interesting gempost and mentioned somethings which I had not not heard of or thought of before.

• Piles rather than rooms for storing items. I would assume that this would mean piles of different items would be stored in one large room. Would this be any different than a storage room for multiple types of items? I have not seen anyway to store items of a single type in one area of a room. I need to lookup "piles" on the wiki.

• Walls and Moats surrounding your fortress entrance.

I will have to plan on trying out DF again during my free time again.
