Solar alert

Issued on 2024 May 29 1058 UTC

A faint halo CME was observed in SOHO/LASCO-C2 coronagraph data from 05:24 UTC May 28. The CME was mostly directed to the south west, with a faint full halo signature. This is determined to be a back-sided event and will not influence the Earth.

Issued on 2024 May 29 1518 UTC

An X1.4 flare was recorded with peak time 14:37, associated with NOAA AR 3697 in the south east of the solar disk. A type II radio emission was also observed with this event. Coronagraph data will be analysed when it becomes available, to determine if any associated CME is Earth directed. Further X-class flares remain possible.
