Solar alert

Issued on 2024 Mar 03 1052 UTC

A fast forward shock was detected in the solar wind ACE data around 08:47 UTC on March 3. The interplanetary magnetic field increased from 2 nT to 5 nT and the solar wind speed jumped from 280 km/s to 330 km/s. The solar wind density at the shock increased from 6/cm3 to 16/cm3, and the temperature jumped from about 1.2e4 K to 5.5e5 K. The shock is possibly related to an expected flank ICME arrival related to the westward partial halo CME first detected in LASCO/C2 data around 17:48 UTC on February 28. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be disturbed with unsettled to active conditions possible depending on the Bz.
