Safety, strategy and Sainz at the Britich GP 🏎️💥

Sainz had his first pole and lost the lead to Verstappen at the start, but the race was immediately aborted because of a pretty horrific accident. Before the midfield braked for the first corner, Gasly and Russell had a little touch which spun Russell into Zhou, and Zhou's car flipped and continued upside down off the track and through the gravel run-off. Then it should have gone into a tyre barrier, but instead it flipped over the top of the barrier and into the debris fencing that's there to protect the crowd. It seemed like ages before we heard that Zhou was ok. Russell only had a puncture from his part in the accident, so he told the marshalls not to touch his car while he ran over to see if he could help Zhou. When he came back they had not only touched it but put it on a flat bed truck, so he couldn't go back for the restart.

The race restarted in the original order, and this time Sainz was very firm in preventing Verstappen passing. But he wsn't fast eough to pull away, and when he missed the last part of the Becketts complex, Verstappen got by. Then Verstappen hit some debris, broke something, and was slow from then on. Sainz was back in front for the third time. Leclerc was very close to Sainz despite having some damage. Eventually, Ferrari made them swap places. The threat was Hamilton (for the first time this year) who had a lot of speed. It seemed like Hamilton might get one of them, but then a safety car gave everyone a chance of a free pit stop and a soft tyre sprint to the end. But Ferrari gave new tyres to Sainz and not Leclerc (who was leading). Interesting decision. At the restart Sainz easily took the lead (for the fourth time) and pulled away. Behind, we had several laps of excellent racing between Leclerc, Hamilton, and a surprise Perez who hd been nowehre all race. They all passed and re-passed one another, including Leclerc going round the outside at Copse - never seen that done before.

Sainz had his first win after 150 races.
