20210521 Ugly

Our house is in the center of town, right behind city hall in a street that used to be a poor neighbourhood. When we look outside our windows we see old buildings. Some are medieval, some are from the last three centuries. Our house is from 1989 and it is the newest building in our street. It is also the only house that is quite ugly. These days it is unthinkable that someone would build such an ugly modern house in such a lovely old city center. What you often see these days is that they leave the facade, tear down the rest of the building and then build a new house behind it. I feel a bit ashamed to live in such an ugly house in such a lovely old town. But only when I'm outside. When I'm inside and look outside, I enjoy the view of all the old buildings and I simply forget the ugliness of my own home.
