A collection of random musings
❦ Finding it difficult to write is not an uncommon occurrence it seems, on a platform focussed around a textual medium. I've read plenty of gemlogs, vowing to publish on their capsule morefrequently or to take it less seriously. For me sometimes the problem can be starting to write, the classic writers block. How do I want to write about this topic; a short informative piece, a long meandering essay, or is it time to have a go at poetry (the reader will be glad to note I do not make my poetry debut here). Sometimes it's other ideas that are the problem, a new and shiny topic can be a big distraction. For better or worse there's no shortage of inspiration in this vast space. If you are reading this then this gemtext managed to avoid the fate of those in my growing collection of shelved drafts.
When I re-read them, I am ashamed of having written them, because I see many things that I, as their author, think should be bundled away.*

🙗 Having some fun today including flourons in this log (appologies to those who only see missing glyph symbols*), seems that they are another holdover from the world of print that have managed to sneak into the electronic age in different fonts and archaic languages†. Another holdover from print is the footnote system I'm using here which is traditional for works in english‡. I wonder how many alternative systems there are.
† wikipedia lists 30 that have code points in Unicode.
‡ The order being *, †, ‡, §, ‖, ¶.

❧ I've seen plenty of recommendations on the internet for a word count to aim for every day. Terry Pratchet is touted as having wrote 400/500 words a day and apparently even wrote 100 words a night on a different project at times.
Write a thousand words a day and in three years you'll be a writer!*
I'm not interested in writing as a career and the style of writing will most likely be limited to informal content for gemini and some publlic web pieces on sustainable tech. Should I aim for a lower bound, perhaps 200? I did find 200 easy enough but practicing anything consistently is difficult for me. I may ignore word counts all together and write as and when the mood strikes, to keep me coming back.
