Fixing my Old Korg N5

As I reported not long ago on its respective page, my Korg N5 is in a rather deteriorated state. This vacation I have found a couple of moments to try to improve its condition and have had limited success.

The first of the problems I tackled was to replace the keyboard contact PCBs. I got a replacement from a donor unit for a few euros. Thanks to this repair, I have managed to fix the keyboard almost in its entirety. The only key that fails is the first C, which I guess is a fault coming from the replacement board. I suppose I could go over the PCB track in detail and try to repair it, but I'll leave that for the future.

I have cleaned all the switches on the edit panel and, although they have improved their operation, they are still not 100%. I guess it's time to desolder them all and put in replacements. I have discovered that the switches I have to change are not suitable, because the contact button is too short and.... of course Korg doesn't sell original parts directly for repairs. It seems that the technical name of the part is Panasonic EVQ-PAC09K-A, with 9.5 mm high buttons. I'll see if I can find them online.

Worst of all, there is a problem that is difficult to repair: the plastic chassis is cracking right at the bolting points. This makes assembling and disassembling the unit progressively more and more delicate. My father has suggested that I try two-component putty to at least slow down the cracking process. Using glue would be useless because it is just the point where the screws exert all the pressure.... It doesn't look good.

I see myself in the future buying a new unit and keeping this as a personal piece or something like that :) The good thing is that it is a very cheap synthesizer!
