here's what i listened to today:
=> Die Verlierer - Notausgang [post-punk]
=> Yellowcake - A Fragmented Truth [d-beat]
=> Deathtrippa - Deathtrippa Szn [cybergrind/breakcore]
=> Sunglasses Kid - Internal Affairs [synthwave]
Notausgang feels like a classic, not in the sense of being stale or anything, it just feels like something i would have been handed on tape by a friend who knew more than me, if that makes sense. there's an almost spaghetti-western influence in the guitars at times that i really enjoyed and the lyrics are earnest, thoughtful & relatable.
it's a punk morning so i follow up with Yellowcake, bringing crunched-out and noisy attacks. Blood Soaked System reminded me a little of Nuclear Death Terror's breakdowns, which i love. ideal for a speedy ride across the wastelands.
i wasn't expecting Deathtrippa Szn to be catchy yet it is. i am not big on cybergrind generally but this is a super fun EP with influence from hip-hop and (dare i say) nu-metal. smartly structured & doesn't overstay its welcome.
Internal Affairs is staunchly in the vein of soundtracks for movies that don't exist, with a retrowave 80s synth decadence. there is nice saxophone on here which helps to evoke rainy nights & neon lights, and some slick guitars in there too. i could do without the interlude tracks tho. it's a solid album that achieves what it set out to do & is pleasant to listen to, but it's hard for instrumental synthwave to stand out much to me.
i am in movie mode at the moment, so i am not listening to as much, thus some sparser postings.
