happy new year & welcome to 2025 :0
here's what i listened to today:
=> Old Nick - The "Where Poison Apples Grow" EP [black metal/dungeon synth]
=> In-House Pharmacy - We Are Electronics and Piano Only [experimental]
=> World Eaters - Hounds Of Blood [death metal]
=> Weird Weather - Visceral Snacks [experimental]
Old Nick is reliably a fun time, this EP celebrates their 5 year anniversary! Tears Of A Crying Wolf is the winner on this for me, diving headlong into techno and wolf howl samples.
i am a big fan of In-House Pharmacy's Tetsuo album so i thought i should check out a different one. this does what it says on the tin, industrial-influenced electronics with swirling piano melodies, making for some interesting & cinematic breakcore. very pleasing.
saw on fedi that World Eaters had a new (kind of) release so i click! i say kind of because it turns out these are some select re-recordings of older material, and they didn't even include their Kate Bush cover! def one for Bolt Thrower enjoyers but they do bring their own spin and don't entirely lean on that sound, i have heard far more shameless worship than this (and i still enjoy that too ftr).
a lot going on in Visceral Snacks but i dig it. plenty of industrial influence and also genres like dub, hip-hop, black metal, ambient, and psychedelic. love love love Olive Green (and the remix!). there is a dark atmosphere that hangs over the album even on the lighter tracks and i like that very much.
all today's listens were a good way to start the year off. i had a difficult morning but these each helped me in their own way.
