Hello to everyone in the Bulletin Buble, and to everyone else in gemspace!

I have been lurking in the corners for too long now. It's been high time I docked. It's been high time I became a part of gemspace, instead of just a tourist.

I'm here for many of the same reasons I've seen others echo. I feel more disconnected than ever. The mainstream internet has largely become a toxic sludge that I would much rather avoid - but I miss the genuine and sincere connections that it once was a gateway to.

I hope to meet and have interesting conversations with people of all varieties, while here. I hope to learn, and to be able to give back.

And I hope to see you around!

Maybe I can also ask for a piece of advice or a recommendation?

I am looking to join a tilde/pubnix, and I've narrowed it down to just two that I think would be great fits - tilde.team and tilde.town.

I am just stumped on how to choose. They seem different enough, each with their own focus, that I could see myself enjoying being a member of both of them, even at the same time; but they also seem similar enough that it might be be a bit impolite or wasteful to apply to become a member of both of them, and possibly just too big a mouthful to juggle being an active user/member of two tildes, when I'm just starting out.

Do you have any advice, that might help me make up my mind, or do you have a personal recommendation for one of them over the other?

I will try. Sometimes the difficulty lies in the fact that the things that truly matter may not always be of the kind that are great to lead with, for one reason or another.

Here's a few things, though - in bullet points, to help me to not go off on tangets or get too long winded.

• I don't work in IT, and never have, which probably makes me a minority around here?

• For personal reasons, I needed to make a career change a few years ago, at least for the time being. Almost entirely by happenstance, I have come to work with kids and youths through the medium of roleplay, both tabletop and live action. What fascinates me and drives me, is my experience that purely recreational roleplay can surpass roleplay as a goal-oriented pedagogical method, when it comes to personal growth, if you use an approach and establish structures that emphasises creativity, agency, ownership and mutuality - not to mention how much roleplaying can do to bridge gaps across diversity, if you just put even a tiny amount of thought and effort into this, as a facilitator. Also, bullet points seem to have lost their power over me.

• I enjoy doing stage acting.

• I made the switch to Linux a little over a year ago. It has been a really interesting and fun journey, learning and increasing my mastery - going from having never before touched a UNIX system, to now, where I consider myself an apprentice Linuxman. Before then, I would probably describe myself as having just been a casual computer hobbyist. In any case, I haven't enjoyed using computers this much, ever since I was a kid.

• I have grown more sceptical of convenience, and I think this is one of the reasons that, even as I have gotten more "techy", I have been more and more drawn towards intentionally simpler and less flashy technology. That is one of the reasons I find myself here in gemspace.

Thank you for asking, and making me sit down and think for a little bit. Some of these might turn into gemlog subjects, when I get my own capsule up and running!

for tilde, I think joining one at a time is a good idea. start with one and see how it goes. It's hard to know until you know what you need and want.
