Gemini has changed my perspective on social media in ways I didn't expect. Even from a technical standpoint, I don't see much of a need for heavy communication platforms like Twitter, Bluesky or Mastodon. Station and Bubble have shown that it's possible to build a thriving discussion space with only a TLS certificate and a GET request.

Absolutly, I'd like a spell checker here in the pop up window but otherwise I'm even seeing this as a possible improvment over my TELET BBS. We're getting about the same net and it's working and working well.

Yes, I really like BBS on gemini too. Regarding the telnet BBS. Recently, I ran a Mystic BBS with SSH access and was part of a network of other BBSes which all shared message boards/channels. There was even an IRC like chat room between many of them. So I believe that the possibility/freedom to interconnect multiple BBSes is still missing.
