My retreat back to life before about 2010 continues: I'm dusting off my old Zune and trying to learn how to enjoy music again. Foobar2000 and apple's AAC encoder are helping me finally whip my media library into shape.

ha! I started doing that a while ago, minimal connection to the internet, using local media repo as much as possible, physicality over software. I would like to call myself a cyber amish. Currently, I use dillo, xfe, icewm with windows NT one on of my nostiagia setup. I wish I could run a fully fltk desktop.

@hansbrix My oldest Sony MZ-R30 has a AA side car fortunately. Kind of ruins the look with a tumor glued to the side but at least it still works. The LIP-12 internal battery only has sketchy modern replacements. I also have a later model Sony MZ-NH700 which mercifully takes a single AA as its rechargable battery. I threw in a modern NiMH rechargable and it's as good as new. Never knew the pain of the gumstick battery!

Man minidiscs really looked and felt like "the future". It's too bad they never really took off in the US. I've got a cassette deck in my truck though so I've got a decent collection of those.

Unfortunately, I was just a little too much of a laggard to get into that stuff until I became a grown up, so I never really got into that stuff when I was young :(
