I tried writing a longer post, and it wouldn't let me submit it. It said "the url would be too long" or something like that. Is this because I'm using amfora?

Gemini has a relatively small limit on request length. To have a longer post you need to create a draft with multiple parts added separately, which then you can publish as a single thing. Or use Titan protocol (unsure how to make that work with elpher myself yet).
