Blanc d'Algerie โ I'm reading the first chapter of Blanc d'Algerie by Assia Djebar. It's not an easy read and I need to keep from the urge to go through the text too quickly. It's more akin to poetry than prose, with a tendency for concepts to be repeated in multiple ways, like a chant, a psalm. It gives me a feeling of familiarity though, with Fatema Mernissi and Mariama Bรข as previous authors who dealt with the same topics and milieu.
