Internet pizza in 1994

I recently posted some history of Xenix and how it was spun off into the SCO Group.

Well, in between their spinoff from Microsoft Xenix and suing the pants off of IBM they had an adventure into the weird.

Partnering with chain pizza store Pizza Hut, they participated in the first internet ordering of pizza, announced in 1994.

It worked like this: you would hop on NCSA Mosaic and go to the Pizza Hut web site in Wichita, Kansas. This was described as a 486 running SCO Open Server.

You would then enter name, address, phone number, and select your pizza and beverages.

From here, the server would dial the local Pizza Hut and give the order information to another SCO Open Server.

If you were a first time customer, the local store would call you to verify your order. Then your pizza is on its way! All payment took place at the time of delivery.

The most difficult part was described as making the graphical menu options for the web page.

And what do you name this miracle of pizza technology? PizzaNet!
