New Unicode chars for “Legacy computing!”

=> https://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/Unicode-16.0/U160-1CC00.pdf

The Unicode Consortium just published a new set of Unicode characters and I am so incredibly excited — they are basically all for Terminals and ASCII art and game sprite and stuff! They are specifically designed for retrocomputing.

Amazing new little sprites (love the little racecars); large circle drawing characters; LOADS of new block characters for ASCII art; outlined letters, chess characters…

This is excellent.

Oh — just noticed there is an entire “large type pieces” block. Expect a LOT of great new ASCII art banners on Gemini as soon as typographers implement all this 🤩

This is indeed awesome. Those large icons composed of four characters seem like they have some flexibility for mixing different parts to make winky faces, animations and whatnot.

I am so excited for these new unicode characters. I am looking forward to using the circle segments in my next ASCII art, it is so difficult to draw a clean circle. Thanks @requiem
