I've recently been sucked into the world of Taiwan BBS ANSI art. This is a largely independent scene from its western counterpart, and grew out of BBS servers that are still used today in Taiwan (search "PTT Bulletin Board"). There are very few english resources on the subject so I've been leaning heavily on translation tools. The language barrier is rough though.
The Taiwan/Chinese style is very unique because it mixes block-drawing characters (aka ANSI art) with text glyphs (aka ASCII art). The word used to describe this style translates to "dark silk" which is a dope phrase so I'm going to use it from now on.
I found some really fantastic articles on the subject and I translated them to english on my gemini capsule:
