Palm Trees and Power Lines (2022)

This was definitely one of the best movies I've seen this year. I love watching mature dramas like this which focus on something else besides social and political issues (there's enough of those already).

Lea is a bored teen girl who is cruising through life with her so-called "friends". She meets a guy who is twice her age and is charmed by his personality. Lea's mother isn't really around to keep an eye on her and unfortunately, Lea isn't able to recognize red flags in a guy.

One might get frustrated with Lea at some point of watching the film and may find her naive, which she is, but I don't think she's completely at fault. Our primal emotions and desires as human beings often make us blind to the bad decisions we make and we don't realize that they're bad decisions unless we can judge them in retrospect. If you've ever been gaslit before, you may empathise with what I've written and perhaps with Lea as well.

I hereby rate this movie a 5 out of 5.
