A day for the butterflies, after a cool wet spring that seems to have been good for the insects, especially the mosquitoes! A bit warmer today, and the wind has died down so it seemed to be a good day for them

Walking around at lunch time a Common brown[1] narrowly avoided being stepped on as it alighted on the footpath in front of me, later on as I rode home from East Malvern station up through Boyd park I saw half a dozen more. A single Meadow argus[2] fluttered past while I was riding, and the ubiquitous Cabbage whites[3] could be seen here and there
