2022/0422/1630 — platypus!

An hour or two spent at the Tasmanian arboretum where signs and brochures all say "you can see platypus". Well I've been plenty of places where that claim is made, usually it involves stalking around at dawn or dusk and silently tip-toeing along creek banks where the sight of a few ripples is probably the best you'll get. Amazingly, here we saw two, probably three, platypus[1] literally cavorting about in the late afternoon in the dam. They were coming up to the surface, swimming around, splashing about a bit and getting to within 3m or so of where people stood on the banks. I wonder what it is that makes them that much less shy here?
