2021-11-05 Capsules for Phoebe

It’s Friday, my wife is meeting friends, and I’m sitting on the sofa, having eaten some self-made bread with some Scottish honey my father in law brought me. Gorse honey!

I run a site focused on my favourite pet project these days: The Transjovian Council. It uses Phoebe and most of it is wiki stuff. I kept wondering though. People don’t seem to like wikis all that much. I guess they like it when other people run and maintain Wikipedia, but they don’t like the thought of other people changing “their” texts.

Well, I was in the mood for experimentation after yet another discussion on the Gemini IRC channel where people said that the Titan protocol was a bad fit for Gemini, or that it was only fit for the particular wiki needs I had, or that writing stuff on Gemini via the web or uploading files via FTP or SCP was good enough. Well, I disagree. And not only do I disagree, but I wrote plenty of solutions:

Hopefully it is understandable that I have little patience for people complaining about the existing solutions. There are so many of them, all I want to see is people supporting anything, anything at all, for their clients.

Luckily, thankfully, @jk has added Titan support to Lagrange. After reading @tomasino’s post, “Making Gemini Easy”, I decided that I should add something dedicated to Phoebe. Many people call their small homes in Geminispace their “capsule” and so I called this project Transjovian Capsules.

Gemini can be used for many things: chat, games… not too long ago I wrote a game called Ijirait. As soon as you connect to it, a character is created for you, tied to your client certificate. I decided to use the same idea. When you visit the capsule site with a client certificate, you get access to a capsule with a generated name. 🙂

Give it a try, if you want.

I’m using your gemini-write extension for elpher, and I must say, Gemini for reading and Titan for writing is a solid pairing. I keep meaning to add Titan support to my little Gemini server, and this is some encouragement.
