In 2007 I finished my monster manual. It all started with a blog post a year earlier. I wanted a monster manual, and I wanted to practice my drawing skills, and so I went at it. I hadn’t really used my drawing apps before but now I wanted to. And so I did.

I agree with Brad J. Murray’s recent blog post, doing it all yourself.
Well, except I didn’t really start a next project. Or perhaps I did. My list of spellcasters and their lairs and their spells is growing ever so slowly. And perhaps they’ll need more art to go with it one day, who knows.

As for working with friends: the one thing I’d highlight that is important for me is building some sort of shared enthusiasm. It doesn’t matter who it is: people online, collaborators, or my wife seeing me draw in the evenings: it’s just good to know that somebody wants to see it happen and talks to you about it. Find this person. 😄
