2012-05-15 Pictures of half-naked Women in RPG Books
- Sexism in gaming art* – every body is talking about it, and I know very little about it. Also, male, white, straight, privilege and all that. But I have a personal anecdote. Once every four weeks a good friend comes over and brings his three kids and maybe a guest kid for some role-playing. We use Labyrinth Lord and the kids love to look at monster manuals and other stuff. The young teenage girl looks at one of the Paizo books and asks me: Why are all the women in this book half naked?
I didn’t know what to say.
In the end, I said something about the company thinking that more men buy the books because that’s what many men like. I felt stupid.

It’s always a bit of a jar when I’m brought up against the fact that I’m mainly a strategically shaved monkey with a veneer of sophistication.
