2009-04-23 Zürich Hackers

I wonder whether there is a Hacker Club in Zürich? I recently met @xrb and @cnrk to talk about Clojure and Scala and we agreed to tackle some Project Euler problems using Clojure (me), Scala (Pat), and Haskell (Christian). I think I will try and talk Misha into joining us. He’s been raving about Scala at work, recently.

Maybe we should also look at the ICFP Programming Contest.

As an introduction I wanted to write a text scambler: Read text from stdin and produce a text on stdout starting with the same two words as the input, but then picking the third word according to the probabilities of a particular showing up after the current pair based on the input text. Repeat the last step a few times.

Maybe I should try and go to the International Conference on Functional Programming in Edinburgh?

I think Fernanda Weiden is living and working near you.

Does she work on Emacs? 😄 I see that she works for Google Zürich, now. It’s true, there must be lots of hackers living around here. I wonder where they hide out.
